Good old Perth always last.

kurdt_the_goat 16th February 2015 02:04 PM

Toynami trying again! Looks interesting, quite stylized though.

Is this jumbo size? Looks all plastic? I dunno, they had their chance, they blew it.

kurdt_the_goat 16th February 2015 03:16 PM

Nah jumbo one is different:

drifand 16th February 2015 11:49 PM

Can't really comment as I do not know the amount of diecast, or quality of it.
It's a pity the didn't release this instead, and sadly my gokin has reached.

drifand 17th February 2015 10:29 AM

Just opened my gokin
I can see the leg attachment issue, and I think I be scoring a bit down points on that lock mechanism as it may wear out.

Somehow, it didn't feel as metal as what I thought it was going to be. I do like the ratchet joints, but I still feel the fist was a bad design, it should have allowed me to shoot the head if I insert it at any 90 degree angle if it was hard to do a launching head.

The face, does look awkward to me for a moment, but after a while I didn't mind it.

What bugs me is that if you guys say the Toyami isn't as cool, then I guess its probably a turd in comparison.

The new Toyami voltron looks more proportion, but I am again finding the fist a bit angled? I guess you can't win everything.

I would rate 8/10 for this toy.

drifand 17th February 2015 03:30 PM

Just looking at the new toyami voltron and I wonder anyone feel that the bottom lions heads look smaller than usual? I was just about to think they might pull off a great piece but the heads look kind of weird even for the fist at an angle.

It's the "Let's make Voltron look like he's made up of 5 dogs" version.

Seriously, they look like dogs.

I am going to agree here, it looks a bit off, the Voltron looked okay at first glance then I noticed the heads on the bottom feet looks small and out.

I think this is more like a action figure version.

I was going to say something about your comment about it being all plastic..
I noticed you edited it.

Makes me wonder if they are doing this cause of Madtoys' version. haha.

Can't say, but being Toyami, they have taken HG approach, and that's to nail any third party from making Voltron. I have read rocketpunch Army that when he reviewed the 30th anniversary version he had chat with Toyami, and said he was a nice chap and said he isn't against third party but I doubt it.

Pretty much you were right, WEP has given exclusive rights to them, and we will never see a Voltron toy made by Bandai or anyone else with license.

As for this new toy, I think only Voltron mode appeals to me, but the foot looks off.

Tetsuwan Convoy 19th February 2015 10:19 AM

Interesting... I don't hate it, but they certainly do look like dogs. I happily await colour pictures and more news. But to be honest the lions look a bit too stylised for my tastes. Although if the price is good, why the hell not?

drifand 19th February 2015 12:10 PM

Have to wait, I am sure colour wise they be spot on. quality wise, I am not sure. Not to mention its price.

Ha ha ha! Yeap.

Judging from what they did with the anniversary one, it wouldn't surprise me to see this have it's price jacked up to the ridiculous $$$. I wouldn't pay more than $200 I thin for a mass produced Voltron

CoRDS 28th February 2015 06:38 PM

something to note about this mad toys figure

no visible screw holes :)
they're all covered. its such a nice touch

Oh yeah.

Never even thhought about it until you mentioned it. Wow. :D

drifand 1st March 2015 10:42 AM

Which is good and bad.

Good in terms of how it looks, bad as in harder to repair if anything is wrong.

I am actually keen to know how Mad Toys are doing, as they sort of went under the table with this toy. I be very keen to see what they can do with other robots with the same concept of gokin metal involved.

Tetsuwan Convoy 23rd March 2015 08:30 PM

If they do, I bet it won't be under the Mad toys name anymore ;)

Well looks like that's it folks from them as I do not see anymore reissue or new products from them.

It's a shame as they used 0 pvc/abs plastic which bandai used too much and those materials will melt away.

I say this voltron will last a long time

Tetsuwan Convoy 16th December 2015 10:54 AM

As Zeus said to some Roman warriors in Altered Beast.

Rwise from your grave!!

Premium collectables have put a link up to an officially licensed version of the King of Beast

Is this a joke? I'm incredibly surprised at this.

drifand 16th December 2015 11:51 AM

Hold your horses everyone , it is pending for final licensing.

From what I have been hearing anyone trying to pre order was given a noticed by wep to take it down. So I am not sure how soon PC gets discovered that they are also to take it off.

eBay sellers were notified and I know some stores too

Trent 16th December 2015 12:50 PM

Wow! They managed to licence it? Toynami wouldn't be impressed

CoRDS 16th December 2015 01:30 PM

oh my thats really cool

They have not is pending ATM.

Shield looks better the shoulder also have more red

kurdt_the_goat 16th December 2015 11:17 PM

Goddammit! Heaps of more accurate details all over, chest especially. Not double dipping but will be the definitive version for sure, great for those that missed the elusive first run!

drifand 17th December 2015 10:11 AM

If only the fist rotates I will double dip

Okay if anyone in Perth wants this but don't have the cash right now can get one from me at the $269.90 price.

I ordered one for a friend just to see how it goes.

My thoughts exactly.

Trent 17th December 2015 02:18 PM

The change I'd like to see is to give the lions the ability to move their legs outwards as well and forward/back. That was what disappointed me about the KoB set.

Won't disagree there but yes if they actually work on a better version 2 I definately won't mind getting it especially when is wep approved as well.

I felt if the legs of all the lions were angled would give a more natural look rather than just straight ones.

Tetsuwan Convoy 21st December 2015 08:16 PM

Thats a good poit too actually.

I thought an official Lion Voltron was in the works earlier as well. Looked a bit stylized, which I kind of liked, and would be fine with a complete plastic figure, IF the price is right.

I wonder if that means that version has been dropped?
